Canned Food UK, which is run by the Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association, has launched its new campaign ‘Eat Like a King’ with TV chef Theo Michaels releasing the first recipe, a crowned artichoke and chorizo quiche to celebrate the new Carolean era. Theo, who is resident chef on TV show Steph’s Packed Lunch and author of his own tinned food cookbook, Canned, commented on the first recipe:
“This is a slight twist on the classic quiche with canned artichokes and earthy chorizo creating the perfect filling for our ‘crowned’ quiche – fit for a king! The quiche features clever crown peaks using filo pastry that any budding cook can create at home.”
The recipe will be followed by four more dishes that will take inspiration from King Charles III’s coronation with each recipe including favourite canned ingredients but with an extra touch for affordable luxury or a royal twist on a classic.
Robert Fell, director and chief executive at MPMA, comments: “We’re delighted to be kicking off our new campaign with such a delicious royal showstopper perfect for summery picnics for the rest of the season. We’re passionate about showing how we can all ‘eat like a king’ with affordable, nutritious canned ingredients many of which we have in our kitchen cupboards.”
Theo concludes: “It was happy coincidence that the King himself selected a quiche for his official coronation lunch and we’re sure he’d be delighted with our take on this perennial summer favourite!”
The recipes will be shared on social media including Theo and Canned Food UK’s Instagram accounts, which can be found at @theocooks and @cannedfooduk or alternatively find the full collection on cannedfood.co.uk.
