CROWN Bevcan has won this year’s MPMA Best in Metal Award for its FACT Organic Flavoured Sparkling Water cans which incorporate CrownConnect™ technology to provide 2D scannable codes beneath the tab.
The groundbreaking technology gives each and every can its own individual digital identity via a unique product code revealed under the ring-pull when the can is opened. Consumers can scan their code to access tokens redeemable for cash and a range of product information including the can’s sustainability attributes.
CROWN Bevan provided the laser marking of the unique codes on its highspeed beverage lines (up to 3000 can ends per minute), a process developed over several years and installed at the company’s production facility in Carlisle. The addition of the unique codes does not require foreign materials to be added to the pack so maintaining the infinite recyclability properties of the metal.
William Boyd, MPMA Director and Chief Executive, commented:
“Brands look to differentiate from their competitors and in this respect CROWN Bevcan has provided great technical innovation to deliver a pack which fully embraces the digital age and provides a clever consumer benefit.”
The Best in Metal Award is selected by MPMA from shortlisted finalists in the MPMA sponsored metal’s category of the UK Packaging Awards. The winner was announced at the association’s annual dinner, held at Drapers’ Hall in the City of London on Friday, 2 November.
